Quarry
Chooses Second CDB Boom
From our October 2001 newsletter
What is it
they say about the second time around? While the lyrics of the
popular song may be talking about love
our interpretation
is customer satisfactionand equipment that has
proven itself on the job.
When the
Walker Company of Mt. Sterling, KY needed to install a stationary
boom for their Menifee Stone Quarry, they followed their own lead
and purchased a Tramac CDB-60, identical to the one in operation
at their Cave Run Stone Quarry. The new boom system, equipped
with a 300 hammer, will be breaking up oversized rocks that get
jammed in the primary crusher.
It wasnt
that long ago (June of this year) that Nat Roush of Walker oversaw
the installation of his first CDB-60 at Cave Run. The Cave Run
unit is working with a 140 hammer and, according to Roush, it
has been doing just fine. His reason for choosing the CDB? Primarily,
he liked the sturdiness and structural integrity of the boom.
The massive, heavy-duty steel box-section construction is designed
to withstand the destructive nature of the application.
According
to Lee Schilling of Brandeis Machinery (Louisville,
KY), Walkers sales representative, the CDBs hydraulics
are a major selling feature. They are neatly routed inside the
boom, protecting them from damage. The boom lift cylinder is inside
the boom as well, preventing contact with rocks and collision
with platform structures.
Joysticks
for Greater Control
The Walker Company added the optional electro-hydraulic controls
on both their unitsdual joysticks that operate a fully-proportional
electro-hydraulic system. This system provides precise control
over the movements of the boom, resulting in greater efficiency
and far less operator fatigue. A thumb switch on one of the joysticks
turns the breaker on and off.
The Walker
Company quarries mine limestone for use in construction, road
bed material, and asphalt hot mix. Through their system of conveyors,
screens, and crushers, they produce end products from 2 in. stone
to limestone dust
